Is an IC occurred a latch-up?
An IC is generated a latch-up by an over-voltage or a reverse voltage.
It might be destroyed by a latch-up phenomenon.
An IC is generated parasitic transistor in internal by occurring an over voltage or a reverse voltage.
Triggering parasitics transistor occurrs a latch-up.
Not only CMOS IC but also Bipolar IC might be occurred a latch up, if it exceeds absolute maximum ratings.
Therefore, an IC must not apply a voltage exceeding maximum ratings.
The figure shows the cross sectional structure of a bipolar technology structure IC.
